Get in touch with art! Erich Lessing Photography proudly presents some parts of the world-renowned photographer’s oeuvre.

Erich Lessing became famous with his political reportage, like the Hungarian uprising in 1956, his photographic journeys to post-war Germany and his portrayal of daily life in the former Soviet bloc countries.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Magnum photographers were invited by Hollywood studio executives, producers and directors to make reportages on various film productions for promotional purposes. Erich Lessing accompanied the film cast and crew of several high profile movies that are all now regarded as Hollywood classics, amongst them Moby Dick
(1956, John Huston), Zorba the Greek (1964, Michael Cacoyannis) and The Sound of Music (1965, Robert Wise). His photographs show the hard work and fun between fiction and reality. The white whale turns into a mechanical puppet, director Cacoyannis into an actor and Salzburg into a big movie set.
